¿Qué es una ostomía en asa?

El aparato digestivo descompone los alimentos y elimina los desechos, pero a veces no funciona bien. Cuando ocurre esto, los cirujanos pueden realizar un procedimiento llamado ostomía.

En las ostomías en asa, el cirujano hace pasar parte del intestino (en forma de asa) a través de una abertura en la pared del abdomen. El asa se abre y los bordes del intestino se sujetan a la piel con puntos de sutura para crear un estoma con dos aberturas. Por una abertura se eliminan los desechos y por la otra, mucosidades. Los desechos y las mucosidades salen por el estoma y se recolectan en una bolsa que se coloca sobre la abertura.
