A to Z: Open Wound, Cheek

Print Page

May also be called: Cut

An open wound of the cheek means a cut or break in the skin. The wound may be minor and near the surface of the skin. Or the wound may be more serious, affecting deeper tissues of a child's cheek, such as nerves, blood vessels, or bone.

More to Know

A wound on a child's face or neck requires medical attention. Doctors may try to close the wound with stitches, tape, or an adhesive glue.

Keep in Mind

Deep, large, and dirty wounds need more care. (A "dirty" wound is one that germs have gotten into.) After a wound is treated and bandaged, follow instructions carefully to prevent infection and minimize scarring.
