“Retinopatía” es el término médico que describe la enfermedad de la retina.

Las personas que sufren de diabetes durante muchos años pueden tener problemas en los vasos sanguíneos pequeños y en cualquier órgano del cuerpo. Es más probable que esto suceda si la diabetes no está bien controlada. Uno de los órganos que pueden verse afectados es la retina, el recubrimiento de la parte posterior del ojo que detecta la luz y que es importante para la visión. La enfermedad de la retina causada por la diabetes se llama retinopatía diabética.
