About Autism Center

We provide comprehensive evaluations to ensure accurate diagnoses and personalized care plans. Our programs support children of all ages and their families through a wide range of therapeutic and supportive services.

Our therapeutic programs include:

  • Connections: Parent training for toddlers and preschoolers newly diagnosed with autism.
  • Early Start Denver Model: Play-based, relationship-focused therapy for toddlers and preschoolers.
  • PEERS® for Preschoolers: Early intervention in social skills for young children.
  • Parent-Child Interaction Therapy: Support to strengthen parent-child relationships and improve behavior.
  • RUBI Parent Training: Practical strategies for addressing challenging behaviors.
  • Hanen Programs: Language and communication-focused parent training.
  • PEERS® for Adolescents: Support middle and high school students in learning skills to make and keep friends.

In addition, we offer:

  • Behavioral health services: Individual and family interventions to address emotional, behavioral and social challenges children with autism may face.
  • Family navigation and social support: Guidance and assistance in accessing community resources, school supports and services.
  • Health care services: Integrated health care services tailored to the unique needs of children with autism. This includes early screening and diagnosis at local primary care sites.

The Tom and Jill Zidian Family Autism Center at Akron Children’s provides compassionate, coordinated and family-centered services for children, teens and young adults with autism spectrum disorder. Our multidisciplinary team works alongside families to support the growth, independence and well-being of their children so they can reach their full potential.

Akron Children’s is seeking members for its Family Action Collaborative Team (FACT) for ACH autism services (FACT-Autism) group. This FACT-Autism will act as an advisory committee to ensure that the needs of individuals with autism and their families are met by providing a vehicle of communication for cooperative efforts between individuals/families and the Akron Children's Hospital clinical staff. Additionally, FACT-Autism will be instrumental in providing support and resources to the local autism community.
