Insulina

Si una persona padece de diabetes, tiene problemas con una hormona denominada “insulina”. La insulina, que es producida en el páncreas, reduce el nivel de glucosa (un tipo de azúcar) en la sangre. Para lograrlo, ayuda a la glucosa a entrar en las células del cuerpo. La glucosa es la principal fuente de energía de las células. Y como estamos formados por células, ¡es importante que tengan la energía que necesitan!

El cuerpo obtiene la glucosa de los alimentos que comes y ésta viaja a través del torrente sanguíneo. Pero sin insulina, es imposible que la glucosa entre en las células. En las personas diabéticas, el páncreas no produce suficiente insulina o el cuerpo es incapaz de responder normalmente a la insulina que se produce. Esto hace que aumente el nivel de glucosa en la sangre.
