Dr. Heinzerling is a pediatric surgeon and trauma medical director at Akron Children’s, where he’s been practicing since 2018. After graduating from Rush Medical College in Chicago, he completed a surgery residency at Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals. He also completed a two-year research fellowship at Children’s Wisconsin. He then completed his pediatric surgery fellowship at Northwell Health Cohen Children’s Medical Center in N.Y. Dr. Heinzerling has a special interest in trauma surgery, neonatal surgery, chest wall malformations, colorectal surgery, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and minimally invasive surgery. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery in general surgery and pediatric surgery. He’s part of the regional trauma committee for the Northeastern Ohio Regional Trauma Network, and is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Pediatric Surgery Association, among other professional organizations. Additionally, he’s an advanced trauma life support instructor and a clinical instructor at Northeast Ohio Medical University.
