Dr. Heinzerling is a pediatric surgeon and assistant trauma medical director at Akron Children’s Hospital, where he’s been practicing since 2018. A graduate of Rush Medical College, he completed a surgery residency at Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals. He also completed a research fellowship at Children’s Wisconsin and a pediatric surgery fellowship at Northwell Health Cohen Children’s Medical Center in N.Y. Dr. Heinzerling has a special interest in trauma surgery, neonatal surgery, chest wall malformations, colorectal surgery, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and minimally invasive surgery. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery in general surgery and is board eligible in pediatric surgery. He’s part of the regional trauma committee for the Northeastern Ohio Regional Trauma Network, and is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Pediatric Surgery Association, among other professional organizations. Additionally, he’s an advanced trauma life support instructor and a clinical instructor at Northeast Ohio Medical University.
