Akron Children's is the home base for 2 Safe Kids USA® coalitions. Since 1992, Safe Kids Summit County has been based at our hospital in downtown Akron. In 2010, Akron Children’s took the lead on Safe Kids Mahoning Valley, which is based at Akron Children's Community Outreach, Education and Support Center in Boardman.

Akron Children's is the home base for two Safe Kids Worldwide® coalitions as well as home to the Safe Kids Ohio state office. Since 1992, Safe Kids Summit County has been based at our hospital in downtown Akron. In 2010, Akron Children's took the lead on Safe Kids Mahoning Valley, which is based at Akron Children's Community Outreach, Education and Support Center in Boardman. In 2016, Akron Children's Hospital became the home of Safe Kids Ohio.

Safe Kids Summit County and Safe Kids Mahoning Valley include community partners representing regional health and social service agencies, businesses, fire and police departments, as well as many other county-wide agencies and organizations concerned with the health and safety of youth. Safe Kids Ohio includes 14 local coalitions and provides oversight, guidance and support to these coalition coordinators. 

Safe Kids promotes and implements strategies to prevent childhood injuries through community awareness, education and public policy changes. They also develop and evaluate community projects designed to prevent unintentional injuries.
