10-year-old nearly drowned in 2016. This program works to prevent future drownings,

Timothy Lee, MD, a pediatric emergency medicine physician at Akron Children's, and injury prevention manager Heather Trnka, say it's important for kids to get swim lessons, but there is no substitute for supervision around the pool. Since the near drowning of 10-year-old Elijah Mathis in 2016, a local program at the YMCA has helped by teaching nearly 10,000 kids to swim.
