Meet Kelli L, Parent Mentor at Akron Children's

Kelli's Story
I am approaching 47 years of age and have lived with cystic fibrosis without the need for a lung transplant. I am happily married and share my life with three rescued dogs, completing our cherished little family. My career is deeply fulfilling, occupying me full-time. My husband and I are avid travelers, and I am actively engaged in community activities, particularly in supporting both animal welfare and aiding individuals in need, drawing on my previous experience in social work, which I now pursue pro bono in my spare time.
I have meticulously crafted a fulfilling life for myself, investing significant effort in mastering healthcare and insurance matters, financial planning, and maintaining a harmonious balance with real-world demands. A natural problem solver, my solution-focused approach has proven invaluable in overcoming challenges. Early on, I learned the importance of managing my healthcare actively and collaborating closely with my cystic fibrosis medical team, taking a hands-on approach to my care. Prioritizing my well-being across all facets of life remains paramount.
I am passionate about sharing my victories with younger cystic fibrosis patients and their families, demonstrating that with resourcefulness and strategic thinking, one can navigate life's opportunities despite the challenges of CF. I am eager to empower others not to let cystic fibrosis hinder their aspirations, emphasizing safe and informed decision-making as key to achieving personal goals.
I aspire for my achievements to be the foundation upon which the next generation can build, empowering them to reach even greater heights. With the availability of cutting-edge medications, I am passionate about teaching others who have CF that they are truly unstoppable.
