Jenny & Norris's Story
Our middle child was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 18. It certainly caught everyone off guard, and really impacted the course he planned to take after graduation. We utilized the Endocrinology Department for support with a CGM and pump. He is very physically fit, active, and doesn't let Type 1 slow him down in any way, shape, or form. He is always willing to talk with kids as well.
Our youngest child has Down syndrome. We have known since before birth. She is almost 16, but has utilized countless services at ACH to help along the way with our journey. While we certainly didn't know what to expect, were devastated and lost initially, we love to talk to and support families that are new to this journey. While it may not be easy, it is not nearly as difficult a journey as we anticipated. Between the various services and departments we have visited at ACH, along with my 30 years of teaching, and in combination with the people we have met along the way, we want to support and help others the way we were helped. She is active in school, dance, extracurricular activities, and her family. She has always been pushed, and we believe it is always helpful to understand she has a disability, but never let it dictate her abilities.
I have met many moms along the way, and have helped them locate resources or have just been an ear to listen. However, my husband loves to support other dads in the same boat. We want you to know that it will be ok. It may not always be easy, but no parenting situation ever is. Please do not hesitate to contact us!
