Caring for your child's asthma -- at school

Because every child deserves to breathe easier and stay healthy at school.

Akron Children’s School-Based Asthma Treatment Program (SBAT) offers comprehensive asthma management for students, conveniently delivered within the school setting. Our dedicated healthcare team partners with families, schools, community health workers, and medical providers to ensure children receive the care they need to control asthma and minimize its impact on their education and daily life.

Akron Children’s School-Based Asthma Treatment (SBAT) Program provides asthma care right at your child’s school. Our healthcare team works with families, schools, community health workers, and providers to help students manage asthma safely and effectively. Students will take their controller inhaler 2 times daily at school.  Medication will be picked up and delivered to home and school. Follow-up appointments will be conducted during the school day.

    SBAT is for students:

    • Who have asthma
    • With frequent symptoms or flare-ups
    • Who miss school because of asthma
    • Who use rescue inhalers often
    • Who have visited the ER or urgent care for asthma

Through SBAT, your child can receive these services:

    • Asthma assessments and personalized care plans
    • Preventive asthma medication (when prescribed)
    • Ongoing monitoring during the school year
    • Education for students and families
    • Coordination with your child’s primary care provider
