Dr. Faruk H. Örge joins Akron Children’s as director of the Vision Center

Akron Children’s is pleased to welcome Faruk H. Örge, MD, MBA, FAAO, FAAP, as the new director of its Vision Center and chair holder of the Dr. Boomer and Jill Burnstine Endowed Chair in Pediatric Ophthalmology.
Dr. Örge brings nearly 30 years of clinical, academic and leadership experience in pediatric ophthalmology. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a fellow of both the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is also an active member of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS) and the International Strabismus Association.
Prior to joining Akron Children’s, Dr. Örge served as director of Pediatric Ophthalmology and held the William R. and Margaret E. Althans Chair at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. He was also a professor of Ophthalmology, Pediatrics and Biomedical Engineering at Case Western Reserve University.
A leader in advancing pediatric eye care and education, Dr. Örge currently serves as vice president of AAPOS and chair of the Advisory Board of the International Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Council. He is also editor-in-chief of the AAO’s Knight’s Templar Eye Foundation Pediatric Ophthalmology Education Center, the world’s largest online educational platform for pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus.
Dr. Örge has authored more than 150 publications and has been recognized on regional and national Top Doctors lists. He holds multiple patents and has led innovations in ophthalmic telemedicine, surgical education and pediatric eye care technologies.
He earned his medical degree and completed his residency and fellowship training at Indiana University. He also holds an executive MBA from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business and has completed additional leadership training through Harvard University and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
