Akron Children’s earns Most Wired award for digital health innovation

12-03-2024 (Akron, Ohio)

Akron Children’s has earned Digital Health Most Wired recognition from the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) for the ninth time. This year, Akron Children’s was ranked Level 9, up from Level 7 in 2023, for midsize acute healthcare systems.

“Akron Children’s is putting industry-leading technology at the fingertips of pediatric specialists to improve the health and well-being of children,” said Harun Rashid, Akron Children’s chief information officer. “It’s exciting because we are improving outcomes and empowering our patients with digital tools.”

More than 48,000 organizations are analyzed by CHIME and ranked on a 10-point scale based on their investment in and adoption of technology to improve patient care, safety and outcomes. Levels 9 and 10 are reserved for organizations leading in the following domains:

  • Infrastructure

  • Cybersecurity

  • Administration and Supply Chain

  • Analytics and Data Management

  • Interoperability and Population Health Management

  • Patient Engagement

  • Clinical Quality and Safety

Among these domains, Akron Children’s was “most improved” in administration and supply chain as well as infrastructure.

In recent years, Akron Children’s has led its peers by:

  • Fully adopting its electronic medical record (EMR).

  • Relentlessly focusing on cybersecurity, protecting patient data and critical, life-saving systems.

  • Using AI and automation to improve quality and safety, provide innovative staffing solutions, and enhance clinician and patient experience.

“Our Most Wired recognition is made possible by the hard work and dedication of our ISD division, clinical and physician informaticists, biomedical engineering staff, health information management professionals and revenue cycle team,” Rashid said.

In addition to Most Wired recognition, Akron Children’s has achieved Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society’s Level 7 distinction, held by fewer than 10 percent of hospitals, for adoption of electronic health records.
