Akron Children's celebrates 32nd anniversary of Children's Tree of Lights

2023 Children's Tree of Lights

11-10-2025 (Akron, Ohio)

Akron Children’s Perkins Square Park will light up again this year with thousands of blue and white lights on Friday, Dec. 5 at 5 p.m. as the Akron Children’s Women’s Board kicks off the holiday season with the annual Children’s Tree of Lights ceremony.

The event takes place in the Rehabilitative Services Lobby, near the revolving door entrance to the main hospital at 214 W. Bowery St.

The public is invited to attend.

Music performers include the Firestone High School Madrigal Singers; guitarist Keith Barnett; singer Matthew Nelson; and the Oak Hill Ringers, a hand bell choir from Oak Hill Presbyterian Church. There will also be a reading of “Twas the Night Before Christmas.”

The tree lighting ceremony will be streamed live into patient rooms, and Akron Children’s Doggie Brigade, sponsored by Milk Bone®, and the Madrigal Singers will visit and carol through the inpatient units.

“This cherished tradition brings light and hope to everyone at Akron Children’s – from our patients and families to our staff,” said this year’s chair, Susan Strandberg. “Seeing the tree glowing with the Bambino on top is a touching reminder of the children and loved ones we celebrate, honor and hold in our hearts.”

Lights on the Children’s Tree are sold individually or by the strand and can be purchased in amounts ranging from $10 to $100 in honor or memory of someone special. Donations are also accepted. Visit 2025 Children's Tree of Lights for details.
