Matthew Groninger, MHA

Vice President, Medical and Surgical Subspecialties

Matthew Groninger is the Vice President of Medical and Surgical Subspecialties at Akron Children’s. In this role, he manages operations of medical and surgical ambulatory practices on the hospital’s campuses and its regional sites.  His responsibilities also include strategic/business planning, practice recruitment and development, resource deployment and financial performance and oversight.

Groninger returns to Akron Children’s from Children’s Hospital of New Orleans, where he served as Vice President of Ambulatory Services since 2017. He initially joined Akron Children’s in 2010 as administrator of the Heart Center, which then led to an expanded role over surgical subspecialties and regional sites. Earlier in his career, he held management positions with ProHealth Care in Waukesha, Wis., and Children’s Hospital and Health System in Milwaukee.

Groninger holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Emory University and a master’s of health services administration from the University of Kansas Medical Center. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

He resides in North Canton with his wife, Michelle, and four children.
