Meet Rebecca M., Parent Mentor at Akron Children's

Rebecca M.

Rebecca's Story

Our journey began when our daughter, Savannah, was born via an emergency C-section, 3 months premature and weighing 1lb 2oz. She spent the first 109 days of her life in a Canton hospital NICU. We brought her home on oxygen and an NG feeding tube. For two months, she seemed to be growing and improving until she aspirated formula into her lungs. That is when we brought her to Akron Children's and she fought for her life in the PICU for 4 months. Her lungs had been greatly damaged causing severe pulmonary hypertension. She now uses a trach, ventilator, oxygen and GJ tube, but is thriving at home with her family. It has been a long journey thus far and we have a long way to go. In the meantime, we have chosen to use our journey to support and encourage others who find themselves on a similar journey. We are truly blessed and would love to bless you and your family by being a mentor!

Rebecca is a parent mentor for these conditions: Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia, Esophageal Reflux, Hypertension, Swallowing Disorders.
