Alex is now in his teens and has spent half of his life in the hospital having multiple surgeries. He has overcome so many obstacles in his life. He has struggled with eating like a normal kid most of his life. He has been through about 54 surgeries and medical procedures.
Akron Children's is our home away from home, even though we are not there as much these days. Occasionally, he gets something stuck while eating and we find ourselves in the emergency room, or he’s coming through outpatient surgery. The hospital staff are always so welcoming.
I became a parent mentor many years ago because if I can help only one family with the emotional rollercoaster you experience when your child is sick then it makes our many years going thru this rollercoaster of emotions worth it.
