My daughter, Francesca, was diagnosed with systemic lupus at age 7. Her immune system overworked and attacked good and bad cells. From there, it was a roller coaster ride. She did not respond to any of the medications and the disease starting harming her internal organs.
Francesca has had 3 surgeries and 4 years of chemo to control the disease. Today she controls her disease with meds, which she will be on for the rest of her life. She graduated high school 6th out of 400. She is studying pre-med at Oberlin College.
