About Autism Diagnostic Clinic

Kids with autism have differences in the way their brains develop and process information. They might have language delays or trouble communicating with others, perform certain unusual or repetitive behaviors, or have difficulties learning in school.

No two cases of autism are exactly alike. Symptoms can be severe and interfere with everyday tasks, or they can be mild and cause few problems. We call this range of symptoms a "spectrum."

Our assessment team includes a psychologist, psychometrist, and a speech and language pathologist. At the initial appointment, your child will undergo speech and language testing. This may include tests of expressive language, receptive language, speech sound production, as well as a hearing screen.

There will also be developmental testing. This may include tests of problem solving/cognitive abilities, fine motor skills, and the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS).

You will be asked to rate your child’s adaptive behavior, socio-emotional/behavior, and/or social communication, as well as review his history during a clinical interview. If your child has any special needs/accommodations, please let us know in advance so we can make arrangements.

We will also collect any relevant early intervention or school documents. These documents may include Help Me Grow or Individualized Education Program (IEP) reports.

This evaluation process will be used to develop recommendations specific to your child, which will be communicated through a face-to-face feedback session with the psychologist.
