CARE Center sets child abuse awareness conference May 26

BOARDMAN, Ohio (May 3, 2021) – Registration is open through May 19 for the Child Advocacy and Children at Risk Evaluation (CARE) Centers day-long, virtual training event.

 

Featured speakers Monique Malmer, MSN, APRN-CNP from Akron Children’s and Amy J. Russell, MSEd, JD, NCC from the Arthur D. Curtis Children’s Justice Center will cover sessions on:

 

  • Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Sexual Abuse Examination
  • Sexual Development: It’s Not Just for Teens
  • Cultural Intelligence in Child Maltreatment Investigations
  • The People in Your Neighborhood: Working with Sexual and Gender Minority Youth

 

The event runs May 26 from 7:50 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Registration fee is $50. It is designed for social workers, counselors, attorneys, nurses, physicians, police officers and others who work in the field of child abuse. The Child Advocacy and CARE Centers work closely with Children Services Agencies in Columbiana, Trumbull, Mahoning and Summit counties to provide medical and forensic evaluations for children and teens who may have been physically or sexually abused.
