Dr. Wulkan is the chairman of the Department of Surgery at Akron Children’s Hospital. He’s been practicing since 1998 and with Akron Children’s since 2020. A graduate of Emory University School of Medicine, he completed residencies in general surgery at the University of Miami, Jackson Memorial Hospital and in critical care at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. He also completed a research fellowship at the University of Alabama, Children’s of Alabama. Dr. Wulkan has a special interest in all aspects of minimally invasive surgery, including neonatal and pediatric bariatric surgery. He offers patients a variety of treatment and services including thoracoscopic lung, esophageal, mediastinal and tumor surgery, as well as laparoscopic intestinal, liver, bile duct, gallbladder, spleen, pancreas, kidney, tumor and hernia surgery. He is board certified in pediatric surgery and a member of several professional organizations. Additionally, Dr. Wulkan is the CEO-elect for the International Pediatric Endosurgery Group, the pediatric editor-in-chief of the Journal of Laparoendoscopic Surgery and the chair of the obesity committee for the American Pediatric Surgery Association.
