My husband, Paul, and I have 2 boys. Our older son has cystic fibrosis, which is the main reason we are at Akron Children's so often. He also has amblyopia and has had a broken arm that required surgery.
Our younger son had to have a minor surgery at 6 months as well, so we've had a number of experiences with surgery.
My hope for participation in the mentor program is to offer other parents a listening ear from someone who has been in their shoes, and especially for cystic fibrosis, to offer connection and networking. The infection control protocols with that condition make it so difficult to build relationships with and gain support from other families.
