Newsweek ranks Akron Children’s 16th among pediatric hospitals

10-21-2021 (Akron, Ohio )

Akron Children’s has been named one of the top pediatric medical centers in the world, according to Newsweek’s World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2022 rankings.

“We are honored to be included among the top pediatric hospitals in the world,” said Grace Wakulchik, Akron Children’s CEO Emeritus, who recently retired. “This ranking is another testament to the compassion, expertise and quality of care our health care teams provide patients and their families every day.”

Akron Children’s ranked 16th among pediatric hospitals worldwide. This year was the inaugural ranking of pediatric hospitals on Newsweek’s annual medical specialty survey. There were 150 pediatric hospitals included in the rankings.

“I’m proud to join an organization that has been recognized for providing exemplary pediatric care,” added Chris Gessner, Akron Children’s new president and CEO. “Every Akron Children’s employee, regardless of their role, is focused on ensuring that our patients and their families receive the best care possible, and it is gratifying to see their hard work recognized by others.”

Newsweek compiled the rankings to help patients and their families “know which hospitals or state-of-the-art facilities have the most accomplished physicians and diagnosticians and offer the highest level of care,” according to Nancy Cooper, global editor-in-chief.

Together with Statista, Newsweek invited over 40,000 medical experts in over 20 countries to recommend and rank hospitals based on their expertise in a subspecialty.

In addition to the Newsweek ranking, Akron Children’s is ranked as a top hospital for pediatric gastroenterology and GI surgery, pediatric neurology and neurosurgery, pediatric pulmonology and lung surgery and pediatric urology with US News & World Report’s Best Hospitals Rankings for 2021-2022.
