Dr. Christopher Liebig will assume the role of medical director for Akron Children’s Mahoning Valley, beginning Oct.  24.

In this role, Dr. Liebig will provide clinical leadership and oversight to ensure high quality medical services are provided. He will partner with Paul Olivier, vice president, Akron Children’s Mahoning Valley Enterprises, to develop and implement the hospital’s strategic initiatives.

Dr. Liebig joined Akron Children’s in 2014 and has served as the director of sports medicine at the hospital’s Boardman campus. He will continue to see patients and maintain his sports medicine responsibilities.

Dr. Liebig received his medical degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine and completed his pediatric residency at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. He completed his fellowship in pediatric primary care sports medicine at Akron Children’s.  He is board certified in pediatrics with a certificate of added qualification in sports medicine. He specializes in treating pediatric sports-related injuries, chronic knee and shoulder pain and concussions.

“I’m very pleased to welcome Dr. Liebig into his new role,” said Dr. Robert McGregor, chief medical officer at Akron Children’s. “His ability to connect with patients and their families combined with his contributions to the organization since joining the hospital in 2014, make him an excellent choice to lead our clinical services in the Mahoning Valley.”

In addition to his duties at Akron Children’s, Dr. Liebig serves as a clinical professor at Northeast Ohio Medical University. He has also been a featured expert in the news and has authored several textbook chapters.
