Akron Children’s Hospital opens sports rehab location at Pinnacle Sports Medina

Akron Children’s’s pediatric-focused sports rehabilitation program, the only such program in Northeast Ohio, is now available at Pinnacle Sports in Medina.

Young athletes ages 10 through college-aged will have local access to world-class sports rehabilitation care.

A 3,102 square-foot portion of Pinnacle Sports, located at 313 Medina Road, has been renovated for Akron Children’s to provide full-service sports rehabilitation. Services include treatment for sprains, strains, fractures, concussions, overuse/repetitive injury, concussion therapy as well as running evaluations and return throwing. All care is tailored to the sport and the demands that each specific sports requires.

“We are pleased expand our partnership with Pinnacle Sports to offer young athletes and their families another convenient location for care and rehab of sports injuries,” said Mike Ross, physical therapist, Akron Children’s Sports Rehabilitation satellite supervisor.

The new Akron Children’s Sports Rehab space includes a throwing wall to help baseball/softball players, quarterbacks and other athletes recover from injury. Once players graduate from limited work with the throwing wall, Akron Children’s physical therapists can use the Pinnacle indoor and outdoor fields to continue rehabbing athletes. “We can use all of what the Pinnacle facility has to offer: multiple fields, throwing and batting cages, Olympic weight room, soccer fields and sports courts,” Ross explained. “We are also rolling out an injury prevention program to help middle school and high school athletes reduce injury risk by improving their strength, speed and agility.”
