40th annual Holiday Tree Festival kicks off the holiday season virtually this year

11-04-2021 (Akron, Ohio )

The volunteers of Akron Children’s will host the 40th annual Holiday Tree Festival virtually from Nov.13-16.

The online event will showcase the community’s holiday spirit, offering an opportunity to buy amazing trees, wreaths, holiday gifts and silent auction items.

In 1982, hospital volunteers created the Holiday Tree Festival to give back to the hospital and the patients it serves. Since its beginning, it has raised more than $6.6 million to benefit medical research, education and patient care programs at Akron Children’s. Because the Holiday Tree Festival draws such large crowds, hosting an online event ensures the public can still be inspired by, bid and purchase safely from their own homes.

Last year’s virtual festival raised $100,000 for the hospital and the patients it serves.

“We hope this year’s festival will put people in the holiday spirit,” said Mary Leuca, chair of the 2021 Holiday Tree Festival. “We learned a lot from hosting the festival virtually last year and we’ve used that information to make this year’s virtual festival the best it can be. We hope to celebrate in-person again next year.”

This year’s festival will feature several ways to add some holiday cheer to your home décor as well as offer virtual photos with Santa.

There will be:

  • 1  3-foot tree
  • 8  4-foot trees
  • 23  6-foot trees
  • 27  7-foot trees
  • 50 wreaths
  • 49 holiday gifts
  • 45 silent auction items

All items will be available for purchase from 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13 to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 16

Purchasers can pick up items at the John S. Knight Center on Wednesday, Nov. 17 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Thursday, Nov. 18 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. This will be a contactless pickup with all COVID-19 precautions in place. The 5-7 foot trees will be delivered on Friday, Nov. 19 (within 50 miles of the hospital only). For more information, call 330-543-8424 or go to www.akronchildrens.org/treefestival.
