Akron Children’s kicks off ‘SocktoberFest,’ a sock drive for patients

October is the month of fall color, crisp days, Halloween, and OktoberFest. But, how about SocktoberFest?

Volunteer Services at Akron Children’s is launching a sock drive for patients during October. All new socks – with tags - are welcome and appreciated now through Oct. 31.

“Socks are something we always need,” said Vicki Parisi, director of Volunteer Services. “Some kids love fun, colorful, crazy patterns but socks are needed for all ages from infants to teens. It’s amazing how something little like a new pair of socks can cheer kids up when they are hospitalized.”

Collection boxes will be at visitor desks on both the Akron and Mahoning Valley hospital campuses. For extra ease in shopping, child life specialists have selected popular sock styles that can be purchased via Amazon. They are included on wish lists for the two campuses:
