Akron Children’s Hospital has earned recognition as a Top Workplace by the Cleveland Plain Dealer for the seventh year in a row. This honor is based solely on employee feedback through a survey administered by Energage, LLC, a leading provider of technology-based employee engagement tools. The anonymous survey measures several aspects of workplace culture.
Akron Children’s was one of 247 companies and organizations participating in this year’s survey. Companies with the highest overall average scores (in comparison to like-sized companies in their region) qualify as Top Workplaces. Sixty-six percent of the 3,499 Children’s employees who received the survey completed the questionnaire this spring. Employees gave the hospital high marks in several areas, most notably: Values (Akron Children’s Hospital operates by strong values); Open-mindedness (Children’s encourages different points of view); and Concerns (my manager cares about my concerns).
“This award is particularly meaningful because it’s driven by employee feedback,” said Rhonda Larimore, chief human resources officer. “Our employees understand that working here is much more than a job. They continue to embrace the three promises on which we were founded 131 years ago: treat every child as we would our own; treat others as they would like to be treated; and turn no child away for any reason.
“Our employees’ commitment to our mission was never more evident than it was in 2020, when they stepped up to the many challenges presented by the pandemic,” Larimore added. “Across our organization, they never hesitated to adapt to significant changes in the way they did their jobs, yet still carried out their roles with the same grace and compassion Akron Children’s employees have always shown to our patients, families and each other.
“Our leadership team is incredibly grateful for all they do, and we remain committed to supporting their dedication by working e to ensure Children’s provides a diverse and inclusive work environment where we treat each other with dignity and respect.”
