Medical Student Skills

Goal:

Students will observe and/or perform a variety of skills done in the outpatient pediatric setting.

Objectives:

Following the outpatient pediatric rotation, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate how to plot height, weight, BMI, and head circumference on an age appropriate growth chart
  2. Demonstrate how to obtain a throat swab
  3. Observe immunizations being given
  4. Observe a vision and hearing screening test
  5. Demonstrate how to write a prescription
  6. Demonstrate how to calculate a pediatric medication dose
  7. Demonstrate how to interpret BP measurement based on standard charts
  8. Interpret BMI (> 85% = overweight; > 95% = obese)
