Medical Student Skills
Goal:
Students will observe and/or perform a variety of skills done in the outpatient pediatric setting.
Objectives:
Following the outpatient pediatric rotation, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate how to plot height, weight, BMI, and head circumference on an age appropriate growth chart
- Demonstrate how to obtain a throat swab
- Observe immunizations being given
- Observe a vision and hearing screening test
- Demonstrate how to write a prescription
- Demonstrate how to calculate a pediatric medication dose
- Demonstrate how to interpret BP measurement based on standard charts
- Interpret BMI (> 85% = overweight; > 95% = obese)
