PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency

Featured Image

PGY-2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY-1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized areas of practice. PGY-2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY-2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification

The PGY-2 pediatric pharmacy residency program will train residents in evidence-based medication management, interprofessional collaboration, communication, leadership, patient safety, and life-long learning.

The residency program will provide the resident with advanced clinical training through various pediatric learning experiences including the pediatric intensive care unit, neonatal intensive care unit, pediatric emergency medicine (level I trauma center), pediatric hematology/oncology, pediatric infectious disease, general pediatrics, and an ambulatory care clinic. The resident will also participate in medication safety projects, research projects, and numerous presentations throughout the year. The residency program tailors its experience to the resident by allowing selection of a variety of elective learning experiences in addition to the required learning experiences. Graduates of the residency program will be adequately prepared to enter practice as a clinical pediatric clinical pharmacy specialist and to sit for the pediatric pharmacy board certification exam.
