Shadow a Nurse Program

The Shadow A Nurse program is temporarily on hold. Please check back later this year for updates.

Akron Children's Center of Nursing Professional Practice provides high school students the opportunity to follow nurses throughout their work day to promote careers in nursing and provide them with a realistic view of the pediatric nursing profession. These experiences are coordinated by the Volunteer Services Department and the Clinical Student Placement Program Coordinator. Students must be at least 17 years of age. Shadow a nurse experiences are available on specific dates and times throughout the year.

Application Process

High school students interested in shadowing should contact their school counselor to coordinate completing the experience through the school.  High school counselors, or students, if the counselor is not interested, should contact Molly Duda to obtain more information.

The goal of our program is to encourage careers in nursing by helping students develop a deeper understanding of the pediatric nursing profession. The shadowing opportunity is strictly an observation experience. A student may witness the nurse making critical decisions, performing procedures such as caring for a wound or inserting an IV, and interacting with patients and their families.
