Rehabilitative Services Student Opportunities

Providing the best care possible to the children we serve in Rehabilitative Services is the result of teamwork between patients, their families, and our staff. The success of this partnership is also made possible through the support of non-employed individuals such as students and volunteers.

Observation/Shadowing

An opportunity to observe therapists in a healthcare facility. It is a one-day (maximum of 8 hours) observational experience. This experience does not fulfill any educational, clinical, or internship requirements, nor does it provide any hands-on experience. To apply for this opportunity, complete the Volunteer Intake Form, save it and email it to the correct contact person listed below:

Department-Specific Volunteer

An opportunity to observe therapists and assist with department-specific needs on a regularly scheduled basis. Volunteer hours will be determined based on individual department needs and your availability.  Volunteers may have the opportunity to:

  • Observe patient care (does not include hands-on experience)
  • Assist with departmental projects
  • Assist with cleaning and organization of equipment
  • Assist therapists with set up/clean up of treatment activities

Volunteer hours may be used to fulfill educational requirements (i.e., hours required for application into an academic program. To apply for this opportunity, complete the Volunteer Intake Form, save it and email it to the correct contact person listed below:

OT/PT Student Affiliation

Student affiliations require a contract between Akron Children’s Hospital and your academic program. If you are interested in completing your affiliation with Akron Children’s, please have your academic fieldwork coordinator contact the appropriate person via email:

SLP/AUD Graduate Student Externship

Graduate student externships require a contract with Akron Children’s Hospital.  If you are interested in completing your externship with Akron Children’s, please have your externship supervisor contact the appropriate person via email:
