Patient and Family Engagement
Akron Children’s Patient & Family Engagement programs and outreach activities improve patient outcomes, reduce stress, and foster family-centered care. By involving families in decision-making, these programs enhance communication, build trust and empower caregivers to better manage their child’s health. They also improve overall satisfaction and provide emotional support, which is crucial in pediatric care. Ultimately, these programs lead to better long-term health management and a more positive hospital experience for both children and their caregivers.
We believe patient care means caring for families, too. That’s why we offer services like chaplaincy, social work, palliative care, parent mentoring, and have child life specialists to help families cope before, during and after medical procedures or a hospital stay.
• Provide resources and services for treatment, recovery and well-being through our Family Resource Center and Chaplaincy programs.
• Expand our child life specialist team who care for our most critical patients throughout their entire journey.
• Enhance creative and expressive arts therapy for patients’ and families’ well-being.
• Bolster our Food Farmacy at our Akron and Boardman Hospitals to better serve families facing food insecurities.
More playing, for Noah, a Ewing’s sarcoma patient who loved music therapy. Writing original songs and strumming on the ukulele provided some normalcy amid treatment.
“Music therapy helped lift Noah’s spirits during difficult weeks of chemo. It had a positive impact on his mental health and was essential in his recovery. We are extremely thankful for Liz at Akron Children’s Hospital. She was amazing!”
– Laura K., Noah’s mom
