Objectives (Educational Content) :

1. Describe the symptoms associated with iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia.

2. Identify the correct laboratory tests to evaluate for iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia.

3. Summarize appropriate treatment strategies for iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia.

Target Audience:

General pediatricians, family physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers, psychologists, and nurses.

Identified Gap:

Healthcare providers may not consistently recognize the varied symptoms of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia, nor be fully aware of the most appropriate laboratory evaluations and treatment strategies. These gaps can lead to delayed diagnosis, mismanagement, and prolonged patient morbidity.
