Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Elective

We offer a 4-week pediatric subspecialty elective in physical medicine and rehabilitation to 4th year medical students.

Objectives

  • Gain exposure to different types of pediatric conditions associated with childhood disability and principles of rehabilitation that may be used to maximize functional outcomes
  • Describe the major motor milestones, developmental reflexes and the developmental patterns of normal gait

Description

  • Assess inpatients, both consults and those on our services, with attending physician
  • Assess outpatients, new and returning, similarly supervised
  • Research and obtain articles on certain interesting patient cases you encounter during your rotation
  • Typical daily schedule includes inpatient rounds and outpatient visits
  • Attendance to the following:
    • Neuro-radiology conference for faculty and residents on rotation at 8:30 a.m., twice a month
    • Epilepsy surgery conference - varied
    • Resident neurodevelopmental conference, Thursday at 12:30 p.m., once per month
  • Night call/special requirements: None
