Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Experience

Advanced practice registered nurses and physician assistants are integral members of our medical staff at Akron Children’s and participate in a comprehensive transition to practice experience upon hire. Whether you are an experienced clinician starting in a new environment, or a new graduate starting in your first provider role, the transition to practice can be overwhelming.

The foundation of our transition to practice program includes a 3-day onboarding boot camp consisting of 2 days of didactic learning, including clinical lectures and organizational enculturation, followed by 1-day of hands-on experience at our Simulation Center. Our 3 Day immersive APP Onboarding Boot Camp is designed to ensure readiness to practice whether you are a new provider or an experienced provider joining Akron Children's in a new role. Advanced Practice Providers receive specialty-specific clinical orientation throughout their initial 90 days though a Clinical Orientation Pathway created in collaboration between your division and the Office of Advanced Practice.

Ongoing educational needs are assessed routinely to drive educational offerings provided by the Office of Advanced Practice including the APRN/PA Pediatric Updates in Clinical Practice Conference every spring, and the APRN/PA Pediatric Pharmacology & Law update every fall.

For APP education questions, please contact Laura J. Abels, APRN-CNS, APP Education Coordinator at LAbels@akronchildrens.org.
