Objectives (Educational Content) :

1. Recognize that obesity is a complex chronic disease and that social and other structural determinants of health have a physiologic impact on a child's weight. 2. Describe an appropriate strategy for evaluation and assessment of a child with overweight or obesity. 3. Identify the components of comprehensive obesity treatment as outlined in the CPG.

Target Audience:

General pediatricians, family physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers, psychologists, and nurses.

Identified Gap:

Obesity is often an indicator of structural inequities like unjust food systems, health inequities and environmental & community factors. Genetics, obesity-promoting environments, life experiences combined with inequities and structural barriers to healthy living all contribute to overweight and obesity.
