Pediatric Neurology Elective

We offer a 4-week pediatric subspecialty elective in neurology to 4th year medical students.

Objectives

  • Gain exposure to different types of pediatric neurological problems
  • Improve skills in the important details of history taking
  • Improve skills in neurological examinations

Description

  • Perform assessments of inpatients, both consults and those on our services, with attending physician
  • Perform assessments of outpatients, new and returning, with attending physician
  • Research and obtain articles on certain interesting inpatient or outpatient cases that you see during your rotation
  • Typical daily schedule includes inpatient rounds and outpatient visits
  • Attendance at the following:
    • Neuro-radiology conference for faculty and residents on rotation at 8:30 a.m., twice per month
    • Neuro-pathology conference for faculty and residents on rotation at 8:30 a.m., twice per month
    • Epilepsy surgery conference - varied
    • Child neurology clinical conference, every Thursday, with an opportunity to participate
    • Resident neurodevelopmental conference, Thursday at 12:30 p.m., once per month
  • Night call/special requirements: None
