Pediatric Hospital Medicine Elective

We offer a 4-week pediatric subspecialty elective in hospital medicine to 4th year medical students.

Objectives

  • Gain exposure to hospital-based general pediatrics
  • Stimulate an interest in pediatrics through exposure to direct patient care
  • Introduce students to the hospitalist model

Description

  • Patient contact: 75% inpatient; 20% sedation unit; 5% outpatient
  • Obtain thorough exposure to comprehensive workups
  • Use laboratory data and imaging as diagnostic adjuncts
  • Give a brief oral presentation on a topic of interest
  • Typical daily schedule 6 a.m. – 3 p.m., Monday – Friday
  • Night call/special requirements: Not required but potential to work night shift with on-call team
