Pediatric Hospital Medicine Elective
We offer a 4-week pediatric subspecialty elective in hospital medicine to 4th year medical students.
Objectives
- Gain exposure to hospital-based general pediatrics
- Stimulate an interest in pediatrics through exposure to direct patient care
- Introduce students to the hospitalist model
Description
- Patient contact: 75% inpatient; 20% sedation unit; 5% outpatient
- Obtain thorough exposure to comprehensive workups
- Use laboratory data and imaging as diagnostic adjuncts
- Give a brief oral presentation on a topic of interest
- Typical daily schedule 6 a.m. – 3 p.m., Monday – Friday
- Night call/special requirements: Not required but potential to work night shift with on-call team
