Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Elective

We offer a 4-week pediatric subspecialty elective in hematology/oncology to 4th year medical students.

 

Objectives

  • Provide training in history-taking and physical examination of infants and children with various hematologic and oncologic disorders
  • Gain experience in the evaluation and clinical management of pediatric cancer and blood disorder patients

Description

  •  Act as the primary patient contact under the supervision of attending physicians in the outpatient clinic with the opportunity to work on the inpatient and consult team
  •  Opportunities to observe/perform the following procedures: lumbar puncture and bone marrow biopsy and/or aspirate
  • Attend and participate in Hem/Onc specific conferences
