General Pediatrics Sub-Internship

We offer a 4-week inpatient general pediatrics sub-internship to 4th year medical students.

Objectives

  • Provide additional training in clinical inpatient pediatric care with emphasis on the diagnosis, management and care of infants and children with acute chronic diseases
  • Develop skills in organizing and supervising comprehensive inpatient care

Description

  • Assume the responsibility of a Junior Pediatric House Officer in one of our pediatric inpatient services, with assistance from the Senior Pediatric House Officer and attending physician
  • Admit patients in rotation with other Junior Pediatric House Officers, managing day-to-day care, presenting these patients at daily rounds and periodic conferences, and communicating daily with the family
  • You will be given one weekend off during your rotation and all requests for days off should be kept to a minimum – no more than two days.  However, during interview season (October through January), we can accommodate up to four (4) days excused for interviews of which two days will need to be made up.  Please keep this in mind when considering/scheduling your General Pediatrics Sub I.

Night call/special requirements: Night shift coverage (5 p.m. – 6:30 a.m.) will offset day shift at times. This will be under the supervision of a Senior Pediatric House Officer.
