Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition Elective

We offer a 4-week pediatric subspecialty elective in gastroenterology to 4th year medical students.

Objective

  • Provide exposure to the nonsurgical and surgical evaluation and management of common pediatric gastrointestinal conditions including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), lactose intolerance, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, peptic ulcers, celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome, pyloric stenosis, acute or chronic abdominal pain, chronic or severe diarrhea, constipation/encopresis, nutritional problems, feeding disorders and liver disease

Description

  • Participate in inpatient and outpatient gastrointestinal evaluation, management, and care
  • Gain exposure and experience in common pediatric gastrointestinal conditions in the outpatient setting
  • Evaluate admissions and consults
  • Gain experience in the inpatient and outpatient setting, ED and OR
  • Participate in daily rounds, clinics, conferences and peer review/quality initiative conference
  • Typical daily schedule: 8 a.m.–5 p.m., Monday – Friday
  • Night call/special requirements: None
