Specimen Type:
Collect 3mL whole blood in red top (no anticoagulant) tube. Test cannot be performed on CSF or cord blood.
Minimum Volume:
2.0 mL
Preferred Volume:
3.0 mL
Cause for Rejection:
Insufficient sample volume; grossly hemolyzed or icteric samples; samples collected in the wrong tube type.
Storage:
Transport blood at room temperature. Upon arrival in laboratory, store at room temperature for no more than 24 hours. If specimen is to be stored longer than 24 hours, it should be refrigerated for up to 7 days.

Macroscopic latex agglutination
Special Instructions:
If RPR is positive, sample will be sent out to a reference laboratory for Treponema pallidum antibody, IgG (a confirmatory test for syphilis).
