  • It is very important to order bacterial cultures in addition to the Joint Infection Panel to obtain antibiotic susceptibility testing results and to identify other possible causes of infection that are not included in the Joint Infection Panel. For example, S. epidermidis, which can cause periprosthetic joint infections, is not included on the panel.
  • The Joint Infection panel cannot diagnose Lyme disease. The Lyme Disease Serology, Modified Two Tier test should be ordered in patients where Lyme disease is suspected.
