Collection Volume:
Collect approximately 1 gram stool in specimen container or Cary Blair transport medium. If collected in Cary Blair transport, add sufficient stool to the "fill line" on the container.
Cause for Rejection:
Stool stored >2 hours at room temperature or stored >24 hours at 2-8C, or Frozen stool. Stool collected in Formalin

Refrigerated 2-8C for <24 hours

Two hours from the time the specimen arrives in the Akron laboratory when the Microbiology lab is staffed (8 AM to 9 PM Mon-Friday, 8-2PM on weekends)

The Gastro-Intestinal (GI) Film Array Panel detects DNA or RNA for the following organisms: Campylobacter, Plesiomonas shigelloides, Salmonella, Yersinia enterocolitica, Vibrio, Vibrio cholerae, Enteroaggregative E. coli (EAEC), Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC), Enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC), Shiga-like toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) stx1/stx2, E. coli 0157, Shigella/Enteroinvasive E. coli (EIEC), Cryptospoidium, Cyclospora cayetanensis, Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia, Adenovirus F40/41, Astrovirus, Norovirus GI/GII, Rotavirus A, and Sapovirus.
