3 mL whole blood collected in one serum separator tube (preferred) or one red top tube (acceptable).
Minimum Volume:
Specimen minimum volume is 1.5 mL.
Cause for Rejection:
Grossly hemolyzed, icteric, or lipemic specimen; insufficient quantity; drawn in incorrect tube.
Storage:
Transport blood at room temperature. Upon arrival in laboratory, store refrigerated for up to 48 hours. If specimen is to be stored longer than 48 hours, it should be frozen.
