Primary Care Lunch and Learn: Updates to asthma management guidelines for Primary Care

Objectives (Educational Content) :

1. . Describe the goals of asthma management in primary care.

2. Review current GINA 2026 treatment guidelines.

3. Apply stepwise pharmacologic management.

Target Audience:

General pediatricians, family physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers, psychologists, and nurses.

Identified Gap:

Despite the availability of updated asthma management guidelines, many primary care clinicians do not consistently apply current GINA recommendations, resulting in variability in treatment approaches and suboptimal asthma control. Gaps remain in understanding the goals of asthma management, appropriate use of controller therapies, and application of stepwise pharmacologic strategies tailored to disease severity. Education is needed to improve clinicians’ ability to integrate guideline-based care into routine practice and optimize patient outcomes.
