Objectives (Educational Content) :
1. Identify the unique and often unmet physical and emotional health needs of mothers with newborns in the NICU.
2. Examine how the maternal drive to be at the NICU bedside impacts self-care decisions, maternal health-seeking behaviors, and overall recovery.
3. Discuss strategies to support maternal health within the NICU setting, ensuring both mother and infant receive comprehensive, integrated care.
Target Audience:
General pediatricians, family physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers, psychologists, and nurses.
Identified Gap:
Healthcare providers working in NICU settings may not fully recognize or address the physical and emotional health needs of mothers with hospitalized newborns. Gaps in understanding how maternal presence at the bedside impacts self-care, health-seeking behaviors, and recovery can lead to fragmented care.
