Objectives (Educational Content) :

1. Describe how cultural considerations, psychological safety, and trust influence communication, family engagement, and patient outcomes in pediatric care.

2. Recognize how interactions between healthcare professionals, patients, and families can either strengthen or undermine psychological safety, trust, and effective partnerships in pediatric settings.

3. Apply evidence-informed communication strategies and Just Culture principles to foster environments where healthcare teams and families feel heard, respected, and empowered to speak up in support of safe, high-quality pediatric care.

Target Audience:

General pediatricians, family physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers, psychologists, and nurses.

Identified Gap:

Healthcare professionals do not consistently demonstrate communication approaches that promote psychological safety, culturally responsive care, and trust-based partnerships with pediatric patients, families, and interprofessional team members, resulting in missed opportunities for engagement, shared decision-making, and speaking up for safety.
