Grand Rounds: Lessons from the Front Line: Caring for Children during Disasters

Objectives (Educational Content) :

1. Describe the complexity of issues in disaster response, both in natural disasters and in war. Assess and prioritize critical activities for immediate and near-term response. 2. Explain the importance of partnerships, building trust, and planning in any successful disaster response. 3. Identify the unique challenges of caring for children during a disaster and important considerations in disaster recovery.

Target Audience:

General pediatricians, family physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers, psychologists, and nurses.

Identified Gap:

Healthcare providers and emergency responders may lack sufficient training in the complexities of pediatric disaster response, including the unique needs of children during natural disasters and conflict situations. Gaps in knowledge and preparedness can hinder effective prioritization, coordination, and recovery efforts.

Method of Participation in the Learning Process:

The learner will view the presentation, successfully complete a post-test and complete an activity evaluation.
